Check it out:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oUXJ8Owes8E\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From the beginning, we knew that we wanted to use three different artistic styles to represent the three categories of narrative, poetry, and discourse. But we didn&#8217;t want to leap into it haphazardly, so TBP gave me an extra week to fill up a wall will inspirational images and &#8220;visual development,&#8221; and to establish &#8220;rules&#8221; for how these different visual worlds would function. (TBP&#8217;s art director, <a href=\"http:\/\/robotperez.com\">Robert Per\u00e9z<\/a>, is really into creating these &#8220;rules.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1969\" src=\"http:\/\/www.everettpatterson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/VizDevWall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.everettpatterson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/VizDevWall.jpg 3264w, http:\/\/www.everettpatterson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/VizDevWall-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.everettpatterson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/VizDevWall-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.everettpatterson.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/VizDevWall-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3264px) 100vw, 3264px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Comics was the obvious choice for &#8220;<strong>narrative<\/strong>,&#8221; so I looked at a lot of old X-men and worked on standardizing a limited half-tone color palette to imitate silver- and bronze-age coloring techniques. I was mainly inspired by Andr\u00e9 Derain and early Matisse. Though I did the vizdev for these scenes, in the actual video they were all painted by my collaborator <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyssaoru.com\">Nyssa Oru<\/a>, who is absolutely\u00a0<em>killing\u00a0<\/em>it with some of these paintings. I looked at a lot of Kandinsky and Paul Klee, as well as ol&#8217; Picasso. <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/pmurphy\">PMurphy<\/a> animated the discourse scenes with an impish technique that mimicked stop-motion animation. I only started attempting frame-by-frame animation in 2017, and the more I do, the more dissatisfied I am with the results&#8230;as I hold myself to a higher and higher standard! It also gives me such tremendous respect for the artists who can do it well.
